Ask five web designers in Ghana what a website costs and you will get five different numbers, because "a website" covers everything from a one-page contact card to a system your staff log in to every day. The price also has two parts: what you pay once to have it built, and what you pay every year to keep it online.
Here are the ranges, as of October 2026, with no VAT added.
First, the build, which you pay once.
A brochure website, about 5 pages: GHS 1,500 to 4,500
This is the site most small businesses need: home, about, services, a page or two of detail, and contact. It includes:
- design and build
- a layout that works on phones
- a contact form
It does not include photography, the domain or hosting (see the yearly costs below).
A website with an admin: GHS 4,500 to 7,000
The same, plus an admin area so your own staff can change text, add pages, post news or update prices without calling a developer. It usually has more pages and visitor analytics. If your content changes every month, this is the one to budget for.
A web app: priced per job
Logins, bookings, payments, customer records, a dashboard for your team: once a site does work rather than just describes it, it is a web app. Two web apps rarely share a price, so we quote each one from what it has to do.
Photography: priced per job
Your own photographs of your team, premises and work make a site believable in a way stock images do not. A shoot is priced by how many locations and subjects it covers.
Yearly costs: keeping it online
- Domain name, .com: GHS 260 to 320 a year.
- Domain name, .com.gh: GHS 150 to 300 a year. A .com.gh needs proof of a registered business in Ghana; see .com.gh or .com for how to choose.
- Hosting: GHS 350 to 900 a year. The cheapest plans are often too thin for a business site that has to stay fast and online.
- SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser): GHS 0 to 250 a year. Many hosting plans include one free.
- Maintenance: our own plan is GHS 1,800 a year. It covers updates, backups, uptime and SSL monitoring, and small edits.
Add these up when you compare quotes. A cheap build on hosting nobody looks after can cost more over three years than a sound build that is maintained.
What changes the price
- Number of pages and page designs. More pages, and more pages with a layout of their own, mean more design and build time.
- Whether you can edit it yourself. An admin area takes longer to build, and saves you a developer's fee every time something changes.
- Forms and features. A contact form is simple. Bookings, payments, logins and integrations with other systems are not.
- Who writes the words and takes the photos. If you supply finished text and images, the build is faster.
- Domain type. A .com.gh and a .com are priced differently and have different rules.
- Hosting quality. A plan with backups, support and room to grow costs more than the cheapest shared plan.
- Search engine work. Pages built to be found for what your buyers search take more planning than pages that only look good.
- Rounds of changes. Agree up front how many rounds of revisions the price includes.
Before you sign
- Register the domain in the business's name and keep the registrar login yourself.
- Ask what happens in year two: who renews the domain, hosting and SSL, and who fixes the site when something breaks.
- Ask about backups. See backing up business data: the 3-2-1 rule.
- Get the yearly costs in writing, not only the build price.
