"How much is CCTV?" is the first question most people ask, and the honest answer is that it depends on what you are protecting. A camera is only one part of the bill. The recorder, the hard drive, the cable, the power backup and the labour to put it all up properly add up to more than the cameras themselves on many sites.
Here are the price ranges we see in the Ghana market, what each one includes, and what moves a quote up or down.
What the prices below are
- Market prices, not Teknikal quotes. They come from what sellers and installers in Ghana are asking, read in October 2026. They are a guide to budgeting, not a promise of a price.
- As of October 2026. Equipment prices in Ghana move with the cedi and with import costs, so check the date.
- No VAT added.
- Installed. Each range covers equipment and installation, not a box of parts.
A small shop or home: 4 cameras
GHS 2,000 to 6,500 installed (market price, as of October 2026).
That covers:
- 4 cameras
- a recorder with one hard drive
- power for the cameras
- cabling and mounting
- setup, including viewing on your phone
The low end is a basic kit, advertised in Ghana from about GHS 1,750, plus installation, which installers advertise from GHS 250 to 500. The high end follows a complete 4-channel package with installation currently listed at GHS 6,100, with room for better cameras, a bigger drive or longer cable runs.
An office: 8 cameras
GHS 5,000 to 9,000 installed. This one is an estimate (as of October 2026).
That covers:
- 8 cameras
- a PoE recorder (one that powers the cameras down their network cable)
- a 2TB surveillance hard drive
- cabling and mounting
- setup
We mark it as an estimate because fewer complete 8-camera installations are advertised with a price than 4-camera ones, so the range leans more on kit prices plus typical installation work.
A large site: 16 cameras and up
We quote per site. A warehouse, school, hotel or yard is priced from a site survey: how far the cable runs are, how high the cameras go, where the recorder sits and how it is powered. Two sites with the same camera count can differ a great deal.
What pushes the price up or down
- Camera count. The obvious one, but each camera also adds cable, a mounting point and a port on the recorder.
- Resolution. A 2MP camera costs less than a 4MP, 5MP or 8MP one, and higher resolution also needs more storage. Our guide to reading a CCTV specification sheet explains what the numbers mean.
- Analog or IP. An analog system records on a DVR over coaxial cable; an IP system records on an NVR over network cable, often with PoE. IP usually costs more and gives a sharper picture and an easier upgrade path.
- Brand. Known brands with local warranty support cost more than unbranded kits.
- Storage. How many days of recording you want to keep decides the size of the hard drive. A surveillance-grade drive is built to write all day.
- Cable length and type. Long runs to a gate or fence cost more in cable and labour. Solid copper cable costs more than copper-clad aluminium (CCA), and it is worth it on long runs.
- Indoor or outdoor. Outdoor cameras need weatherproof housings, and high mounting points take longer to fit.
- Power backup. A UPS for the recorder and switch keeps the system recording when the power goes. See keeping CCTV recording through dumsor.
- Extras. Audio, colour night vision and smart detection (people and vehicles rather than every moving leaf) all add cost.
- Warranty and aftercare. A quote that includes a service visit and someone to call when a camera goes dark is worth more than the cheapest box.
What is usually not in the price
- A monitor or TV for the recorder
- A UPS or generator, unless it is in the quote
- Civil works such as trenching or ceiling repair
- Travel to a distant site
Before you buy
- Ask what is included, line by line: cameras, recorder, drive size, cable type and length, mounting, setup.
- Ask how many days it will record before it overwrites the oldest footage.
- Plan for the law. Cameras that film people bring duties under the Data Protection Act; see CCTV and the Data Protection Act.
- Set up phone viewing safely. See view CCTV on your phone safely.
